Who are you?

Hint: You are not a role.

I once asked a client, who was a soldier, who she will be once she leaves the military, and she paused.

“I really don’t know,” she eventually said.

Ask someone who they are and they’ll give you their resume. What happens when those things go away?

Nothing. You’re still you. Of all the thousands of clients I’ve had, most of them thought their jobs defined them. No, YOU define you. The rest is just circumstances.

Most people leave jobs because they’ve been reduced to a role.
